I began my Caring Homes journey in 2018 as a Head Chef, with over 30 years of culinary experience. This was my first full-time role in care catering, and it quickly became one of the most rewarding chapters of my career.
What I enjoy most is engaging with residents—listening to their life stories and using that insight to create meaningful, personalised meals. This connection brings a unique purpose to the kitchen: we're not just feeding people, we're helping sustain their wellbeing and happiness.
Though I had previously supported care homes during my military career, joining full-time was a big shift. I served in the Army from 1989, completing 9 operational tours and cooking across the world. The Army taught me key life skills—communication, leadership, adaptability—that I now use every day at Caring Homes, from managing kitchens to mentoring chefs.
Today, I proudly serve as Group Executive Head Chef, overseeing food quality across our homes, conducting audits, and supporting our chef development programme. My military experience helps me drive excellence and consistency in every dining experience.
Before joining the care sector, I worked in restaurants and contract catering—but the hours and pressure took a toll. Working in care offers something more: work-life balance and the chance to make a real difference.
At Caring Homes, we’re not just delivering meals—we’re nourishing lives. For chefs looking for a fulfilling role, care catering offers purpose, stability, and the chance to be part of a truly supportive team.
