My career in adult social care began in 1997 when I started working as a Care Assistant, supporting adults with learning disabilities (LD). Over time, I progressed through the sector—first becoming a Senior Care Assistant, then a Care Manager, and eventually a Registered Manager. One of the proudest moments in my career was leading the first specialist care home in the UK for adults living with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
In 2018, after returning from maternity leave, the care home I managed was awarded CQC Outstanding—a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the entire team.
Following this achievement, I transitioned to work in elderly care, taking on the role of Clinical Analyst within the compliance department. My focus was helping care homes across the business reach and maintain CQC Outstanding ratings, supporting them with quality audits, policy implementation, and best care practices.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, my role became more hands-on again. I found myself back in care settings, supporting teams directly. I now work as a Quality Support Practitioner, where I coach care teams on best practices in care delivery, support them in using the PCS (Person-Centred Software) system, and deliver interactive workshops on key topics such as the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), hydration, and oral health care.
I am now completing my Level 3 Award in Education and Training, which will equip me to deliver even more effective training and mentoring for our dedicated care teams.
Every day in this role is different. I love visiting our homes, collaborating with incredible professionals, and being welcomed as part of each team. It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to improving care outcomes and to make a real difference in the lives of the people we support.
