Skills for Life: Growing Your Career at Caring Homes Through Apprenticeships
National Apprenticeship Week 2026 (9–15 February) is all about celebrating learning, progression and the value apprenticeships bring, not just to businesses, but to the people doing them. At Caring Homes, we’re proud to mark this week by highlighting how our team members can grow their skills, confidence and careers through apprenticeships at every stage of their journey.
Apprenticeships Aren’t Just for New Starters
Many people think apprenticeships are only for school leavers or those just starting out in a career. The reality is very different and that’s especially true at Caring Homes. We offer apprenticeships to existing team members, giving people already working in care the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, develop leadership skills, or expand specialist knowledge, all while continuing in their role.
Whether you’re a care assistant wanting to step into a senior position, a nurse looking to strengthen your management skills, or simply someone who wants to learn while you earn, apprenticeships provide practical, career-enhancing training that fits around your life.
I chose to do a Commis Chef apprenticeship so I could learn on the job while gaining a qualification. The apprenticeship has supported my development and given me valuable experience that I use every day at work.
Mark Woods, Kitchen Assistant, Homefield Grange Care Home
Learning While Making a Difference
Ongoing training isn’t just about ticking boxes; it has a real impact on the people we care for. When our teams grow, residents benefit from continuity, expertise and confidence in the care they receive. By completing apprenticeships, our team members bring new skills, ideas and leadership to their roles, enhancing the experience for residents every day.
Apprenticeships at Caring Homes are about more than just qualifications, they’re about building confidence, taking on new responsibilities and feeling supported every step of the way. They’re designed to help people flourish in their careers while ensuring that the homes remain warm, safe and professional environments for those we care for.
The apprenticeship has supported my progression from a carer into a Wellbeing Coordinator role by combining structured learning with real workplace experience. This has helped me apply what I learn straight away and build confidence in my role.
Skye Howe. Wellbeing Coordinator, Brooklyn House Nursing Home
Skills for Life, Careers for the Future
National Apprenticeship Week reminds us that learning doesn’t stop once you start a career and at Caring Homes, it’s a core part of how we support our teams. Through structured programmes, mentoring and ongoing guidance, apprenticeships give our people skills that stay with them for life, not just skills for a single role.
Being on the Nursing Associate apprenticeship programme has been a truly rewarding experience for me. I chose this pathway because it allows me to learn, grow and apply my knowledge directly in practice while continuing to support our residents and the wider team.
